Joan Procter was a British herpetologist who worked with animals in the early 1900s. Her work with reptiles and amphibians was so influential that she has two species named after her: Buhoma procterae (snake) and Testudo procterae (tortoise). She became curator of reptiles are the ZSL London Zoo, and was known to walk about the zoo with Sumbawa, a Komodo dragon that she had tamed.
